So March started with a couple of purchases, firstly 2 plastic boats from an auction that I won for £15, the smaller of the two was a Helios and was complete with ESC & Motor, there was even a receiver in there, turns out all but the motor was useless, even the servo was knackered, so dive into my box of bits and found a suitable servo, esc & receiver, then chucked it in the lake! surprisingly good, only needs a better throw on the rudder so plan to add an extender to the existing servo.
The second of the two plastic boats was a NQD Sports Game 757 an quick google showed that it was a twin motor with tank steering with not earth shattering performance, I thought it would fare much better as a single prop & rudder arrangement, and as my Dad didn’t have a project on the bench at the moment dropped it round with a 3500KV brushless motor, Prop Shaft, prop, esc and motor mount, I believe its close to water trials, watch this space.

Final project for March is a Springer tug purchased from eBay, £39 bought this very well built solid little tug, its been fibre glassed and heavily varnished, there are two motor mounts fitted.
I have a CEM900T motor in my box and figured if I bought it a pair would make a decent drive system for this tug, plenty of torque for pushing, the motors run at 3,000 rpm so not super quick, but ‘torquey’

The other issue is the tiny poor plastic props, currently 40mm 3 bladed

So on to Simon at the Prop Shop for replacements, there’s room to go to 45mm and I want 4 blades, he suggested scale steam boat props as they have a nice deep pitch, so ordered.

Will get them on and it tried at the weekend.
