The Aeronaut Spitfire Kit is next on the bench, the kit was out of stock all across the UK, so I managed to order one from France and was here within a few days.

The kit came with a ‘depron’ jig, Depron is a kind of foam, made assembly of the keel and bulkheads simple.

Sides went on easily, fitted well, good quality kit so far.

Throwing the initial stages together gave me a boost, However the next bits are a lot more complex, the servo operates the steering wheel and wires wrapped around pulleys operate the turn of the outboard, so I’m trying to think ahead as I go, I noticed the steering wheel that comes with the kit is simple wood, I’m sure I could fettle it into a decent shape and paint, but its easier to look on Cornwall Model Boats at the Cap Marquette boat fitting and buy a decent one!

I have the outboard its cool with a retro look to it, already assembled with a brushless in-runner

The next stages of the build will likely take some time, not planning to rush it, plan to sail in the spring, works getting in the way, I’m only getting a few hours a week to tinker.

A lick of paint

Progress is slow on this one, lots going on at work, plans showed a strengthening piece across the bottom of the transom in ply, but there was enough of cuts of mahogany to make it in that, and I think it looks better, I’m working on the outboard motor mount next.

Motor mounting plate made up as two separate blocks to get the angle required for the outboard, and give me something strong and secure to screw into.

I have some flexibility to adjust the angle of the outboard but first run will be with the prop level with the hull

Threaded the control wire
Tightened it all with the bottle screws

I’ll need to make him a shirt at some point! another new experience!

Well first run highlighted its too heavy in the back, I’ve got a couple of options, adjust the angle (rake?) of the propeller, and add weight to the front, as I’ve sealed the front up that will prove a little challenging.
